Can most printers print A4?
A4 sheets have a width of 210 mm and a length of 297 mm. A4 paper size sheets are part of the ISO 216 system that has been internationally adopted. The size is printable in most common home and office printers and has become the standard copy paper sheet.
These are the universal home printing format, and all laser and inkjet printers – along with some mobile printers – should have A4 capability.
A4. A4 paper is the most commonly-used for printing and measures 210mm x 297mm. This paper comes in many different weights and with several different coatings, meaning there is an A4 paper that is suitable for any printing job.

The ISO 216 standard, which includes the commonly used A4 size, is the international standard for paper size. It is used across the world except in North America and parts of Central and South America, where North American paper sizes such as "Letter" and "Legal" are used.
If you put two pages of one size together to create a new sheet of paper, they will have the same aspect ratio, according to Ezeep. Some argue that the U.S. doesn't use metric measurements, so they are unable to adopt A4.

How do I print A4 on 8.5 x11?
The Print options in the Word Options dialog box. Note the option, near the bottom of this section, called Scale Content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" Paper Sizes. This option is selected by default in Word. It apparently comes into play with some printers or if you are printing to a PDF file.
A resolution of 210 x 297 mm at 300 ppi (pixels per inch) is perfect for A4.
Standard US sizes
US sizes are based on the imperial system, so 'Letter' size is 8.5 by 11 inches, whereas the equivalent A4 size in inches is 8.27 by 11.7 inches – not so easy to remember. Standard paper sizes in the US do not have a consistent aspect ratio, but were individually set.
For example, the length of A4 is 297mm which is also the width of A3. To many people wordwide, excluding North America and Canada, the most familiar paper size size is A4 (a familiar 210mm x 297mm).
Legal size paper is 8.5 x 14.0 inches (216 x 356 mm), whereas A4 size paper is 8.3 x 11.7 inches (210 x 297 mm). Legal and A4 size paper have little in common with each other, as legal paper is still taller than A4, which is much more closely related to letter size paper.
If nothing else, the consistency of the A4 paper size, and the entire A Series, makes the paper simpler to work with for designers and creators. Because each page has the same aspect ratio, each item on the page retains its relative shape when sizing up or down.
Standard US sizes
Letter size as mentioned before is the equivalent of A4, this would be used for general printing at home, letters, flyers, homework – you name it. Ledger (landscape) or Tabloid (portrait) is slightly larger than A3 and could be used for small posters, menus and record keeping.
The most popular formats of the traditional sizes are the Letter (8.5 × 11 inches), Legal (8.5 × 14 inches) and Tabloid (11 × 17 inches) formats. You more than likely use these formats in your everyday life. Letter is the standard for business and academic documents.
At Home Printing Paper Sizes
For US standard paper sizes, most at home printers (unless wide format) go up to 8.5” wide, and length can be adjusted for letter or legal. Wide format printers typically start at 13″ x 19″.
